Call for Papers: Tolkien Studies at PCA/ACA Conference 2015

Next year’s Popular Culture Association / American Culture Association’s joint conference will be held at New Orleans from April 1-4. There will be a dedicated Tolkien Studies stream including sessions, panels and papers and for this a Call for Papers has been issued. The deadline is November 1, 2014.

We welcome proposals on any area of Tolkien Studies (the Legendarium, adaptations, reader reception and fan studies, media and marketing) from any disciplinary or interdisciplinary perspective. Sessions are scheduled in 1½ hour slots, typically with four papers or speakers per standard session.

If you are interested in participating in this conference please download the Call for Papers. If you are on Facebook you are most welcome to join the PCA/ACA Tolkien Studies group.

To submit your panel or presentation, go to http://ncp.pcaaca.org and follow the instructions for creating an account and making your submission.  ALL submissions must be made through the conference submission site.

Are you aware that there is an International arm of the Parent organisation in Finland? They meet every year, but so far, no Tolkien Studies sub-group. Are you interested? Does anyone think its a good idea to ask for a Subdivisional Heading, like K’zoo?

I am seriously considering submitting a proposal for the New Orleans Conference. I’ve done some interesting research recently for another venue, and I think it may be accepted. But, how good it would be to have something on a grander scale here on the Continent? It wouldn’t have to be in Finland, nor would it necessarily need to be on the same dates, although I can envision a secondary subdivision in Finland every year.

We – you and I and Jan Boom and a few others – are building a bigger, better, richer network. Tolkien India will come on-line for the first time this autumn and Tolkien Korea is in the works. Is there any reason why we should not make an effort to get sponsorship from this established group?

    Let’s talk. Really.
